Veterans

Serving those who have served.

The transition from military life to civilian can be difficult to navigate, and many of our veterans struggle to build civilian careers and personal relationships. In addition to the reintegration process, veterans may also have to deal with PTSD, depression, or substance abuse. Pathfinders’ Veterans program provides a menu of services that are customized to the needs of the individual on his/her path to self-sufficiency and self-actualization. Mentoring

Mentoring is at the heart of the Veterans program to assure that each veteran has support and an advocate for the services he/she needs.  Mentoring is a four to twelve-month long-term multi-layered approach to the complicated issue of transitioning from military service to civilian life.

Veteran volunteers receive training in the mentoring process, Motivational Interviewing, and resources available to the program participants. Each mentor provides a broad range of support including budgeting, job preparation, decision making, emotional support, parenting advice, and goal setting.  Mentoring provides peer support through group mentoring and social activities. Many returning veterans lack close personal relationships, and the support of a caring veteran mentor who has made the transition to civilian life can be invaluable in building a new life.

Financial Coaching

While many returning veterans pride themselves on independence and self-reliance, many report stress in their financial lives. Participants in the Veterans program also receive Financial Coaching to help them set financial goals and create a plan to attain those goals. Each client-driven financial coaching session addresses personal needs for improving financial behaviors and is led by a coach with topics including budgeting, banking, borrowing, and credit. Sign up for a financial coaching session today! Employment Coaching

An employment coach works with each participant to create a career plan and take steps to put that plan into action. Activities include career planning, mock interviews, employability with a background, dress for success guidance, professionalism in the workplace techniques, and how to plan for unexpected emergencies to avoid absenteeism and tardiness.

Employment coaching is conducted one-to-one or in a group setting. The support of a mentor or volunteer employment coach can help the client expand his/her professional network and promote self-confidence in making a career move.

Volunteer with the Veterans program today

Volunteers in the Veterans program are veterans themselves and offer the support that can only be provided by someone who has been there before. They are all ages and span a variety of economic and educational backgrounds. They are willing to listen, and they help the client address obstacles to employment, health, and personal relationships. If you know how to set goals, stick to a budget, or look for a job, you will make a great volunteer! Pathfinders provides training, ongoing support, and opportunities to connect with other volunteers and share your successes and challenges along the way.
